But there is a wealth of dive sites within America's parks that few people ever discover – many of them right in your backyard. So this month, we are starting a new online feature that highlights one unique dive each month. We'll show you a picture and give you a few clues about the location, and you can test your knowledge of the park's offerings.

Communicate Underwater with this New Torch — Just Give it a Shake
Tired of banging on your tank to get someone's attention underwater? Then check out Moray Dive Gear Inc.'s new Diver's Communication Torch. The light is equipped with a noisemaker that can be heard for more than 100 feet underwater. But don't worry, it stays silent when diving and only makes its signature rattling sound when you give it a good shake. The torch has a single Cree XRE LED, a lumen rating of 150 and a burn time of 8+ hours at full power with 20+ hours of usable light that is powered by only 2C cell alkaline batteries. Double O-rings secure it to 500 feet. It's available online and through authorized Tektite dealers for $89.95 and comes with batteries and lanyard.

Biscayne National Park 24-hour BioBlitz
Divers in the Southeast (or those of you who feel like traveling for a good cause) should grab your gear and head to the Biscayne BioBlitz, April 30 through May 1, 2010 in the Biscayne National Park just outside Miami. This is the fourth such event to take place in the U.S. through a partnership between the National Park Service and National Geographic in anticipation of the celebration of the National Parks' centennial in 2016. The goal of this two-day event is to record as many living organisms in Biscayne National Park in 24 hours as possible, and to better understand how to protect the natural environment in the future. Sylvia Earle, renowned oceanographer and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, and Kenny Broad, a National Geographic Emerging Explorer and director of the University of Miami's Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy, are among the hundreds of scientists who will be leading the public teams. The species count will be followed by the "Celebrate Biodiversity Festival" on May 1, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Biscayne National Park's Dante Fascell Visitor Center. Highlights of the festival include family activities, presentations and opportunities to talk with scientists. The "Endangered World" art exhibition, with Miami artist Xavier Cortada, will also be featured. The event is free, but advance registration is required to be part of a field team.
