Learn to Fly Underwater
|

Forget space exploration, it’s better to go down. And by down we mean 1000 feet beneath the surface of the ocean in a flying submersible. Not a submarine, but a submersible that actually has wings, and is built to fly in water the same way a place flies in the air.
The Deep Flight Super Falcon is the fourth generation submersible designed by Graham Hawkes and built by Hawkes Ocean Technologies. Introduced in 2008, Hawkes delivered the first Super Falcon to venture capitalist, Tom Perkins, and Hawkes uses his own Super Falcon to share underwater adventures with the public. DeepFlight Super Falcon actually does look like a jet, complete with wings, tail fins and two cockpit-style seats. And while this type of underwater vehicle has historically been reserved for researchers and scientists, Hawkes Ocean Technologies has brought these innovative vehicles into the private sector. Yes they’re expensive — probably more than any of us really want to know. But Deep Flight also offers a Flight School where participants can join in a demo of sorts and either go for a ride along or actually learn to fly the Super Falcon in a 3-day training course and receive some of the first underwater pilot's licenses.
