Dear Diver,
When asking our guests what sets Wakatobi apart for them, there are three main things that come up again and again:
the reefs, the personalized attention and - strikingly - how different they feel about the whole experience:
Mrs. Barbara Vasquez, a keen diver, retired after a career that took her to the highest echelons of the
semiconductor industry expresses her emotions like this:
"At Wakatobi, you enter into an altered state, profoundly connecting to nature as you glide over the
reef super-organism, observing the complex and beautiful web of life that it sustains. You arrive stressed by
your high powered life and then it feels like you drop into the Wakatobi zone: you let go, the pace slows,
the pleasure grows and life flows in new ways"
Mr. Judd Burstein, head of a New York City boutique law firm, a gentleman enjoying a reputation for
thoroughness, focus and brilliance in high profile litigation cases reveals how he felt about the personalized
service:
"I have been fortunate to have traveled my entire life for pleasure and business-six continents and at
least 50 countries. I routinely travel in what can only be described as extreme first class in every way.
onetheless, it was not until I arrived at Wakatobi that I experienced the perfect vacation."
"I have never encountered a staff that was so personally concerned about each guest, as an individual,
having the best possible vacation. Within two days, every staff member - from the boat deck hands, to the maids,
to every waiter, to the kitchen staff - knew my name and greeted me. I felt as though I was being cared for by a
family. And, in the end, what is so remarkable..." "

Mr. Stephan Becker,, principal of Beautiful Oceans, an international coral reef education, mapping and
conservation organization, who in other words is looking at and documenting reefs in great detail for a living,
expresses how he experienced his first encounter with Wakatobi reefs:
"Although I feel I am not easy to impress anymore, the wealth of life on the reefs of
Wakatobi simply took my breath away on several occasions. I cannot recall that I have ever before dropped
my jaw and my dive slate along with it at a sight of such overwhelming beauty."

Dr. James Cervino, a formost coral health specialist Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute :
"Wakatobi has an almost pristine coral reef framework at all diving locations, which far exceeds
what one could imagine. I urge my fellow scientists to visit this location so that they can get an idea of what
the reefs appeared like 150 years ago"

The promise of magnificent diving in comfort and style may be your main reason to feel attracted to Wakatobi.
And we understand that you entrust us with your most precious time of the year - that is why we go way beyond
what you have come to expect from a "dive resort" to set your underwater experience in a frame of overall quality,
professionalism and peace of mind.
Yet upon leaving, many tell us that Wakatobi has come to mean much more than just a smoothly delivered dive
holiday to them. Some describe it as a magical place that will forever stay in their hearts. Wakatobi adds a
different dimension to your experience.
Find out why.
"Wakatobi is as much a spiritual experience as it is a delight to the senses, it is something totally unique."
William Casale - 2009
Passion
It is always very inspiring to encounter people who put great passion into what they do - and when exceptional
people seek to convey the drama of life unfolding in the realm of the littlest of seahorses, something deeply
moving results.
Wakatobi is proud to have contributed to what we know today about pygmy seahorses by providing a working platform
to people who have dedicated years of their lives to better understand these fascinating little creatures.
Follow Richard Smith's gripping tale
of fulfillment and tragedy on the fans on his blog and enjoy video including the mating rites of the pygmy seahorses
with unbelievable video footage of a male pygmy giving birth. Yves Cousteau in his day did not convey more
excitement in his tales than does Denise Tackett (the lady who gave one group of pygmy seahorses their name)
in her video account.

The Pelagian Dive Yacht -a Class on its Own
Pelagian is a Wakatobi-based luxury dive live-aboard that is an excellent choice either on its own or as a
combination with Wakatobi resort. Guests access Pelagian on the same exclusive air charter that brings
resort guests from Bali. Then, they head off "into the sunset" on an exciting cruise offering a varied
itinerary including a selection of the famous Wakatobi region's spots, remote reefs with pelagic action
as well as recently discovered muck diving sites that are sure to impress even the most well-travelled divers.
"The entire Pelagian experience far surpassed my expectations. I have done dozens of liveaboards all
over the world and this is the best in terms of service, atmosphere, quality and experience."
Barbe Jenkins - Gibson
Read more how the 3 components : 1) a great yacht fine tuned to serve only 10 divers in safety and exclusivity
2) direct the best reefs left on the planet
3) seamless integration with Wakatobi Dive resort as logistic support platform constitute together a live aboard
experience without equal.
Another Dimension
Once you come to face Wakatobi's vast expanse of pristine reefs you immediately realize that you are seeing
something that is very rare and precious these days. The commitment to protect these reefs is at the heart
of all our efforts. When the resort started operating it created agreements with the surrounding communities
to jointly turn a handful of miles of reef into a
"no fishing"
payments, the provision of electrical power and other supporting measures.
Today, the program comprises all of the 17 communities around the resort with over 20 km (12.5mi) of reef system
included and it is still being extended. Dozens of top dive sites are now fully protected for the enjoyment of
sophisticated divers and to the benefit of the locals!
So if you want to help protect our pristine reef eco-systems join us in our conservation mission simply by visiting
the resort or by joining a Pelagian cruise. A meaningful part of your payment to us goes to the community,
directly contributing to the protection of your favorite reefs. Learn more about our award-winning
"Collaborative Reef Conservation Program" here.
"This was my second trip to Wakatobi, it exceeded my expectations again, and you have raised the level of
dive vacations so high I do not believe I will ever dive in a location around the world that can beat the entire
experience."
James Grendell - April 2009
Well, does this sound like a dream vacation for a privileged few? It probably is because space is so limited, and
it's not because of the cost. Consider the total package and compare it to the overall cost of a "normal" diving
vacation in another part of the world and you will be most pleasantly surprised.
Nowhere else can you get the Wakatobi-kind combination of exclusive access to pristine reefs, high quality service
and facilities in such a delightfully remote place.
Warm greetings from
the Wakatobi team*
