Dear Diver,
Life on a healthy coral reef teems with symbiotic relationships. Symbiosis, the
relationship between different organisms and species that mutually benefit each other, can be seen on
every dive in Wakatobi. In fact, our naturalist guides are experts in helping guests find and
experience fascinating and unusual examples of marine life symbiosis.
The Wakatobi staff continually strives to create the finest symbiotic relationships on the topside too!
Our mission is to provide an environment where divers can experience the planet’s last, big stretch of
virgin reefs
on the region’s finest dive yacht, Pelagian. That means offering our guests a high-end dive
platform, quality amenities, premier service at the world epicenter of marine life. It’s a
symbiotic relationship that has our guests raving.
Let’s look at the symbiotic components individually before we sum them up and deliver a surprise:
Component One: Pelagian Dive Yacht as the Ultimate Exploration Base
"We have been diving for 40 years; this was
our 32nd liveaboard trip and it ranks among the top 5!"
Doris & Bob Schaffer,
September 2007 (more quotes) |
Many dive operators worldwide aspire to get feedback like Bob and Doris Schaffer’s. For us, it only serves as motivation to work harder. And that’s exactly what we’ve done. We want each and every diver to rate us their #1 dive experience. So we’ve made it our passion to continually refine the ship and hone our guest services to ensure we’re worthy of being #1 also to you and your friends.
We’ve just finished remodeling Pelagian’s interior. We’ve added space and amenities found in high-end and boutique-style hotels. Next, we’ve established a 10 guest maximum occupancy on every cruise so our staff of 12 can really focus on delivering premier service. Guests can now expect to experience pampered freedom while diving one of the most remote marine environments in the world!
Our ongoing endeavor appears to have borne fruit, and here is what guests are saying
of late:
"Pelagian is the finest live-aboard on the seas.
Many liveaboards boast refinement, but only Pelagian delivers."
Karen Schofield, April 2009 (more quotes) |
" Without a doubt the best diving we have ever done.
The reefs are the healthiest we have ever seen. Makes it hard to dive anywhere else. The Pelagian is the
best liveaboard in the business! Simply gorgeous and the food was divine. I simply cannot say enough good
things about the crew.

Component Two: Unsurpassed Reefs
Being at the epicenter of marine life isn’t a bad start for a dive operation. It means more
species of fishes and coral are found below the Wakatobi region than any place in the world. Building
on this, we’re working hard to grow our conservation efforts so guest can enjoy the diversity
found here for generations to come. We invite world leaders in marine life conservation to Wakatobi
to study and consult with us. Here is what one such expert,
Dr. James M. Cervino, has to say
about the reef systems in the Wakatobi region:
The high diversity of corals, optimal coral health, and wide variety of reef and fin-fish in Wakatobi is superior
to any other location I have visited in the tropics, and my research has taken me to many, many reefs during the
past 20 years.
Wakatobi now serves as my global control site. The pristine corals surrounding Wakatobi provide an optimal
baseline for scientists to compare with locations where corals are suffering from global warming and land
sources of pollution.
In short, this is what a healthy and vibrant coral reef should look like ... and I urge my fellow
scientists to visit this location in the next decade so that they can get an idea of what the reefs appeared
like 150 years ago”
Dr. James M. Cervino, Woods Hole
Oceanographic Institute March 24, 2009 |
Dr. Cervino is one of the
preeminent researchers of coral health; with over 2,000 world-wide dives he is supremely qualified to
judge the quality and health of Wakatobi’s reefs. We’re proud of Dr. Cervino’s
endorsement of our reefs and committed to maintaining
a strong conservation program.
But wait, you’ll be exploring more than the “global reference reefs” cited by
Dr. Cervino. Aboard Pelagian, you’ll cruise beyond Wakatobi’s immediate reef system -- far
into the horizon. Pelegan’s
cruising territory allows divers
to experience even more stunning topography, schooling pelagics, sharks, whales and other big
fish action. And you will encounter some
of the craziest-looking and rare marine life while visiting some of the best muck
diving sites in Indonesia. All this
in total exclusivity, with no other dive boats in sight.
Component Three: Wakatobi Dive Resort as Pelagian’s Support Base

Wakatobi is in the remote heart of the
Indonesian archipelago some 600 miles east of Bali, at least 300 miles away from any other dive operation
or live aboard. But we don’t believe that getting guests to “remote” should be a
painful experience.
Our private air charters from
Bali, including VIP treatment during check-in and upon your return, paired with the resort’s own
airport
make the transit to Wakatobi fast and enjoyable.
With the Wakatobi resort serving as our support base, there are no long travel transitions.
In our care, you avoid unreliable connections, uncomfortable airports, and long transitions through the
waves.
Our goal is to get you into the water and enjoying your dive holiday in record time!
We want our guests to enjoy remote splendor without the hassle -- with unmatched safety and reliability. Wakatobi
is there to make sure the Pelagian can deliver every time. More about Wakatobi
Dive Resort.
"It's a mystery how Wakatobi is able to run such a
top notch operation on such an isolated island. From the rooms, to the food, to the diving, it was just
wonderful. This was a trip I will talk about for a long time to come. Thank you!"

Consider the overall value
Being on a dive yacht provides one with a certain sense of space and freedom. A cruise on Pelagian in the
greater Wakatobi area offers an additional level of solitude and peace due to the fact that so
few vessels frequent this region. Out here you often go days without seeing another vessel.
Times suggest that you seek solid values again. Invest your most precious time of the year wisely, and go for quality.

Dive Yacht Pelagian
"The absolute best "one stop" dive vacation. From diverse dive sites - walls to muck, critters and corals, to pampered service and great food on board the yacht. Superb!"
