Scuba Diving magazine Top 100 Readers' Choice

Jan/Feb 2010 Cover
The Readers’ Choice Top 100 is one of the highlights in the dynamic Jan/Feb 2010 issue of Scuba Diving, on newsstands now. The annual feature highlights the world’s best destinations (as voted on by Scuba Diving’s savvy readers) for 15 categories, including Best Macro, Best Wide-angle, Best Wreck, Best Marine Life, Best Overall and more. See which destinations are head of the class in more than one category.

The Jan/Feb issue features winners in seven categories but there is more useful travel info from our 2009 survey than we could fit in the issue, so check out these other top picks for marine life, visibility, wall diving and more.

Hawaii Businesses Get Tough on Fish Feeding

Following the lead of the Coral Reef Alliance’s “Take a Bite out of Fish Feeding” campaign, which discourages using food to attract fish for snorkelers and divers, several of Hawaii’s largest commercial merchandisers –– including Longs Drugs and Walmart –– have agreed to stop selling recreational snorkeling fish food in all Hawaii locations. “As an experienced backpacker and a PADI certified diver, I think it prudent not to be considered a food source for any wildlife...no matter what their size,” said Bob Ingersoll, Vice President of Hawaii Operations at Longs Drugs. “All Longs Drug Stores in Hawaii proudly support the Fish-Friendly Business Alliance.”

Honduras Travel Alert Canceled

Here’s a bit of good news to start 2010 for divers who love Honduras’ rich reefs: The U.S. State Department Travel Alert, instituted in late July, was canceled in early December ’09 following the peaceful election of President Porfirio Lobo.
