Dear Dive Industry Friends,
Welcome to the April edition of Bottom Time. Here we introduce our new Scuba Diving Editorial staff members for the recently formed Bonnier Dive Group. This talented team has been hard at work producing the May 2009 issue of Scuba Diving magazine which will be available on newsstands April 28.
I also wanted to take a moment to offer my observations related to the state of diving. While the major news networks continue to report on the doom and gloom of the economy and we realize many in our industry are experiencing a slow-down, the thriving foot traffic at the recent Beneath the Sea show in Secaucus, NJ offered a beacon of hope for our industry. Eight of our staff attended this bustling show where approximately 15,000 consumers were anxious to get back to their passions. Several of the 22 government tourism organizations exhibiting at the show commented that divers are much more engaged than consumers they encounter at leisure travel shows. This is a testament to the vitality of our "passion market". Perhaps people are tired of being down and are ready to get back to life, and with that come travel and equipment purchases that allow divers to live the dive life.
To use an analogy from another favorite sport of mine, I believe the surf is building and those that are paddling the hardest will catch the wave. With that said we have been paddling extremely hard here at the Bonnier Dive Group and trying to do our part to inspire divers to take action and GO DIVING. So without further delay, I would like to introduce some our new staff which brings additional experience to the industry and inspiration to our readers and your future customers. If you are looking for new and creative ways to reach dive consumers, please do not hesitate to contact me or any of my staff.
