First job: My very first job was as a sales associate at Claire’s Accessories. I loved the interaction with the customers, but I was not a fan of piercing the ears of babies. A day in the life of California’s human resources director consists of: Every day is different. When I arrive in the morning, I never know how the day will unfold. One thing is for sure, I’m ready for anything and everything. How my job is changing with the reorganization of Bonnier Corp.’s HR department: I now have a more active role in the recruiting and staffing process. This new responsibility allows me to work more closely with hiring managers to hire the right fit for the position. Favorite part of my job: My favorite part of working in HR is that it requires a large skill set. We must be informed of employment law, interpersonal relationships, business knowledge, strategic planning, benefits and more. I find that there is always more to learn, and it is always interesting. Greatest challenge on the job: One of the biggest challenges is working with satellite offices. I wish I could be in more than one place at a time so that everyone could just walk down the hall to see me when they have a need. My strongest assets: I’ve been told that I am quick to respond to employee questions and emails. Most memorable day on the job to date: I wish I could tell you! Shhh … It’s confidential! What I want to accomplish at work this year: Success in recruitment for the managers I work with in California. Greatest advice for success: Use every experience, good or bad, as a learning opportunity to improve yourself.
