Chris Tauber, who has been spearheading Islands magazine’s digital efforts with multiple iPhone apps and its upcoming iPad launch, has been promoted to the newly created position of Group Brand Director, overseeing several Bonnier travel brands. The announcement was made by Sue Gilman, group publisher of the travel and lifestyle group.

Matt Hickman Promoted as WaterSki and Wakeboarding Push New Media
Matt Hickman has been promoted to the newly created position of director of brand strategy for WaterSki and Wakeboarding. The change comes as the brands focus on developing new products that go beyond traditional print and website offerings.
Hickman, former editor of Wakeboarding and more recently the digital content director for Bonnier’s water sports group, will lead the restructured teams at WaterSki and Wakeboarding as they position themselves to better connect with their partners and audiences in a changing media landscape.

Florida Travel + Life and Islands Both Nominated for Top Magazine of Florida
Florida Travel + Life and Islands magazines are finalists for the top prize in the 2010 Florida Magazine Association Awards, which honor excellence in magazine publishing for the state. In addition, both titles are up for awards in the prestigious Best Written category. Winners will be announced at awards ceremonies in Orlando Aug. 13.
Florida Travel + Life and Islands are finalists in 14 categories. Islands leads with 10 nominations, and Florida Travel + Life is a close second with nine nominations.

Field & Stream’s July Issue Gets Blown Away by FOLIO:
FOLIO: took Field & Stream up on its challenge to open fire on its July Shoot This Magazine issue, which features a pull-out target inside that reads “I (Heart) Guns.” It’s all part of a promotion for Field & Stream’s new Outdoor Channel television show, based on the magazine’s popular online blog, Gun Nuts, which stars the magazine’s two gun editors — David E. Petzal, rifles editor, and Philip Bourjaily, shotguns editor. The Field & Stream reader who submits the most creative photograph of the completed target wins a rifle by Smith & Wesson, a sponsor of the issue. In addition, the issue gained the attention of the The New York Times and NPR, who both picked up the story.
