Parenting’s March Growth Spurt
Recently recognized as one of Media Industry Newsletter’s top five gainers, Parenting Early Years saw a 29-page year-over-year ad gain in March 2010, placing it among min’s top five with In Style, Good Housekeeping, Real Simple and People Stylewatch.
Despite an average consumer magazine ad-page decline of 6 percent through the first quarter, Parenting and its sister publication Babytalk are both off to a good start in 2010.

Mobile Delivering Revenue for Water Sports
“Our goals for mobile are closely aligned with our goals for websites: Build traffic in order to drive revenue,” says Laura Walker, online director for the enthusiast titles. That goal is now being realized as the mobile model drives revenue for Bonnier’s enthusiast titles.
The first mobile advertisement deal is done — it’s a landing page for CWB Board Co. This monetization of our water-sports app-etized websites is proving there is a place for the brands to succeed in the mobile environment.

New Strategy for Private Meetings Summit — Market Across Bonnier Titles
As Bonnier continues to expand its events calendar across all brands, the Private Meetings Summit, begun in 2002, continues to reach new audiences.
This year, a new strategy is in place to market the Summit across all Bonnier brands instead of tying it to one title (previously it was under the Meeting Traveler banner). Thus the event’s organizers hope to tap into a deeper pool of luxury properties interested in the meetings and group markets.

Bonnier’s Carol Evans Rings the Opening Bell with a View
Carol Evans, president of Working Mother, along with Sherri Shepherd, co-host of The View, kicked off the March for Babies fundraiser by ringing the Opening Bell of the New York Stock Exchange.
Evans shared the spotlight because she’s the vice chair of the March of Dimes’ national Board of Trustees. It’s a very personal cause — her now college-age son was born prematurely.

Motor Boating Awards Draw Big, Influential Crowd
Some came from as far as China to be a part of Motor Boating’s Best of the Year Awards during the recent Miami Boat Show. The annual awards sparked renewed interest as scores of company presidents, marketing directors and agency leaders came to the ceremony.
“This was the most impressive turnout we’ve had in the past decade or so that we’ve been giving the awards. It shows that they are recognized in the industry and are valued by the people and companies that receive them,” said Peter Janssen, Editorial Director of Motor Boating.

Bonnier’s Sara Öhrvall, Senior Vice President, Research & Development in Sweden, will be a guest panelist for the upcoming MPA conference: Magazines 24/7: The E-Reading Revolution. Sara is responsible for the digital magazine project within Bonnier and was behind the Mag+ concept launched in December 2009.
Her panel will discuss how the e-reading platform offers magazine brands significant opportunities to greatly expand and enhance content creation. Topics include how content gets re-engineered for the e-reading platform; what it means for the audience relationship; and how staffs can adjust and adapt to the rapidly evolving environment.
The conference is scheduled for March 18 in New York.
