New Direction for Weldon Owen Just weeks after becoming a part of Bonnier Corp., Weldon Owen has expanded its business into publishing. For more than 20 years, Weldon Owen has produced and packaged books, selling publishing rights to a third party. Now in an effort to get closer to its markets and take control of the sales and marketing of its books, Weldon Owen has taken the publishing process in-house.

Golden Moment for Bonnier’s Warren Miller Entertainment
If you were one of the millions who watched the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics, the first action you saw was from Bonnier Corp.’s Warren Miller Entertainment. The three-minute video that kicked off the ceremonies was produced by Bonnier’s acclaimed film division. The high-energy action footage featured Johnny Lyall hitting the slopes to set up the 23-year-old snowboarder’s live stadium stunt, welcoming the crowd to the 2010 Games. Nearly 68 million U.S. viewers tuned in to the most-watched opening ceremony ever for a non-U.S. Winter Olympics.

SKI Magazine vs. Sports Illustrated: Battle of Lindsey Vonn Covers A friendly battle of covers between Bonnier’s SKI magazine and Sports Illustrated sparked quite a bit of controversy over the past couple of weeks.

Both magazines featured U.S. skiing superstar Lindsey Vonn on recent covers. Vonn, who just won one gold and one silver medal at the Vancouver Olympics, posed for the SI cover without a helmet, in tuck position, in full makeup, smiling at the camera. SKI featured a race shot of Vonn ripping down a World Cup course on its recent Olympic preview cover.

Bonnier Gives Warm Welcome to Olympians and Fans at Vancouver Airport
During this year’s Winter Olympics, travelers at the Vancouver International Airport were met with greetings from Bonnier’s own SKI, Skiing and TransWorld SNOWboarding magazines.

The titles partnered with 13 Hudson News retail shops to display 20 “Welcome to Vancouver” banners, featuring SKI, Skiing and TransWorld SNOWboarding logos, throughout the airport.

Bonnier Takes Home 17 Awards in Writing Contest
The Boating Writers International yearly writing competition honors the top marine journalists for their “excellence in creating compelling stories about the boating lifestyle through entertaining, educational and inspiring journalism.” For this year, top honors were dominated by Bonnier writers.

In winning 17 awards, Bonnier magazines swept three categories: Boating Profiles, Boating Travel or Destinations, and Fishing.
